So I went to see New Found Glory/Set Your Goals/Four Year Strong/Crime In Stereo at Academy 1 on Saturday. Apart from I didn't get to see Crime In Stereo, as I had two of the worst shites I've ever had (only beaten by that Chinese buffet in Florida), spaced over an hour. I arrived early into Four Year Strong's set, who were fucking wank. Stupid, stupid breakdowns and dumb playing up to the crowd. Mind you, the crowd was one of the youngest I've ever been a part of. I counted 3 people older than me. The weird thing is, I didn't feel proud to be still be doing this, it just felt wrong. Usually, until a good band comes on. Which in this case was Set Your Goals, who rocked, but were still disappointing.
New Found Glory were just great, way better than I expected. I actually got knocked over on the first song, "Understatement"... the kids went freaking ape and took me by surprise, OK? Shaun decided to go surfing (mainly because we tried unsuccessfully several times to get Murph to go) on "Hit or Miss" and went flying over the barrier, and wound up getting knocked out. Clearly I shit myself, and so did New Found for a short time, they even stopped playing, which sort of makes it worth it I'm guessing. Honoured! Anyway Shaun was OK, with a fucking huge lump on his head, and in the end we almost got Crime In Stereo to stay round, when we talked to Alex. Good guy, superb band.
Oh yeah just to finish, Dan Trust was fucking wasted, to the point or irritation, and whilst his girlfriend (Beth) tried to find us based on his slurring, we went to Canal Street for a bit and got slaughtered by some lesbians on one of those boxing machines. Good night, superb times. Especially with the yip na'an from Abdul's, complete with it's 16-bit Doom burgers.
